I’d go with a free platform until you’re sure want to continue blogging, and have gathered a following. If you’re aspiring to write, I’d suggest an online critique group. The one I’m familiar with is: critiquecircle.com. Getting suggestions and advice from other writers will improve you’re writing. Reading other writers and explaining what works and doesn’t will give your own writing more depth. Even if your a great writer all ready, the people there can help with plot and characterization. Any writer can always use another writers opinion of their stories.
The other tip I’d suggest is the age-old one you’ll hear from every writer. Plat your butt in a chair and write every day.

protect against hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard
